Highlights
- Keeps soil out of the drainage layer
- Heavy duty, rot-resistant, non-toxic
- For bioactive terrariums, paludariums and planted vivariums
- 18″ x 24″ sheet
Lugarti soil separator mesh is a heavy-duty, rot-resistant, non-toxic barrier for bioactive and planted enclosures. Laid between the drainage layer and the soil, it lets water drain through while keeping the soil from washing down and clogging the drainage.
A separator is what keeps a bioactive setup from turning into a waterlogged, sour bottom layer over time. Cut it to the footprint of the enclosure and run it slightly up the sides so no soil can slip past the edges.

Keeper notes
Lay the drainage layer first, then the Lugarti soil separator mesh, then the soil. The 18 by 24 inch sheet covers the floor of many small and medium terrariums; for larger enclosures, overlap two pieces generously so no soil gets through the seam. Cut it with sharp scissors. When you water a bioactive setup, check the drainage layer every few weeks and siphon out water before it rises up to the mesh, because soil that sits in standing water goes sour. Keep the mesh flat and smooth, so the soil layer sits evenly on top.
