Highlights
- Harvested in the deserts of Palm Springs, California
- Lightly sandblasted and heat-treated against pests
- Small: about 10–14″, for 15–20 gallon enclosures
- Every piece is unique
Lugarti ghost wood comes from the deserts around Palm Springs, California. Lugarti hand-finishes each piece, lightly sandblasts it and heat-treats it to eliminate any pests. As a result, you get a pale, weathered, sculptural branch.
The small size, about 10 to 14 inches, suits 15 to 20 gallon enclosures. Desert wood is dense and stable, so it makes a good climbing and basking perch for geckos, small lizards and snakes. Because it is natural, every piece differs in size, color and shape.
Note
Being a natural product, these will naturally vary in size, color and shape.
Keeper notes
Before adding Lugarti ghost wood to the enclosure, rinse it and let it dry. Then check that it sits firmly, because a branch that rolls or falls can injure an animal. Also wedge or anchor climbing branches so they hold the animal’s weight. Set the basking end at a safe distance from the heat lamp, where you measure the right surface temperature. Desert wood is best for dry and moderate setups. However, in constantly wet enclosures any wood softens in time, so check it now and then. Larger enclosures may also need two or three pieces to create a full climbing route.
