Rep-Cal Herptivite is a complete multivitamin and mineral supplement for reptiles and amphibians. Instead of preformed vitamin A it contains beta carotene, which the manufacturer says the body converts into vitamin A in a regulated way, so there is no danger of vitamin A toxicity. Its base of sea vegetation is rich in trace elements and minerals.
Two things to know when you plan supplementation: Herptivite contains no vitamin D3, so D3 has to come from Rep-Cal calcium with D3 or from UVB lighting, and it does contain some phosphorus. It is also not settled how well insect- and meat-eating reptiles convert beta carotene, so some keepers rotate in a vitamin with preformed vitamin A for those species.
Dosage
For best results, mix Rep-Cal with Herptivite multivitamin supplement. Mix with vegetables, fruits, and pastes approximately 1/2 tablespoon Rep-Cal with 1/2 tablespoon Herptivite per pound of food.
Before feeding insects: 1. Thoroughly mix a 1:1 ratio of Rep-Cal and Herptivite in a plastic bag. 2. Place insects in the bag. 3. Shake slowly until they are completely covered.
Notes
Contains no added starch, sugar, soy, preservatives, artificial coloring, flavoring, or fragrance. Not intended for human consumption. Store in cool, dry place. Do not use if tamper proof seal is broken or missing. Consult your veterinarian for any special nutritional problems or advice.
Keeper notes
Mix it 1:1 with Rep-Cal calcium as the manufacturer suggests, or follow your vet’s plan if your animal has special needs. Keep the jar tightly closed and away from heat and light.
