Highlights
- Blue glass simulates natural moonlight
- Gentle heat for tropical night temperatures
- Lets you watch nocturnal animals
- 50W (PT2126) or 100W (PT2058)
The Exo Terra Night Heat Lamp has blue glass that gives a moonlight-like glow. As a result, you can watch nocturnal animals, and Exo Terra says it does not disturb their day and night cycle. It produces modest heat, enough to keep tropical night temperatures. Meanwhile, its lower wattage does not stop the natural night-time drop in temperature.
Use it at night only for species that really need extra warmth after dark. Also keep the daytime light separate. As with any heat bulb, run it in a dome with a ceramic socket and on a thermostat. Then check the temperatures where the animal actually sits.
Caution
Pet care bulb for use with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates only.
Keeper notes
The Exo Terra Night Heat Lamp comes in 50W and 100W. Pick the lower wattage for small enclosures and rooms that stay mild at night. Measure the temperature where the animal sleeps, not just near the bulb. Also put a thermostat between the lamp and the outlet. However, if the room itself rarely gets cold, many species need no night heat at all. Finally, keep a spare bulb, since heat bulbs tend to fail without warning.
