The Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot is a typical heating lamp. A special filament produces infrared heat, and the red glass lets it through. In addition, a built-in reflector aims the heat where you need it. Exo Terra says the reddish light does not disrupt normal activity, so it can be used day or night.
Keepers use it to raise the overall air temperature. It can also give a warm spot at night for species that need it. Similarly, it lets you view nocturnal animals without white light. Like any heat lamp, however, it gets very hot. So use it in a dome with a ceramic socket, keep it out of the animal’s reach and run it on a thermostat.
Caution
Pet care bulb for use with reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates only.
Keeper notes
Choose the Exo Terra Infrared Basking Spot wattage by enclosure size. For example, use the 50W for smaller terrariums and the 100W for larger ones or cooler rooms. Run it with a thermostat set to your species’ temperature. Also keep a cooler area the animal can retreat to. However, many species do fine with a natural drop in temperature at night. So check whether your animal actually needs night heat before you add it.
