The Exo Terra Reptile UVB100, formerly the Repti Glo 5.0, gives a moderate level of UVB similar to shaded rainforest and tropical habitats, where humidity and cover filter the sun. Exo Terra rates it effective up to 15 inches (40 cm). At 4 inches, Exo Terra measures about 105 µW/cm² UVB for the 13W and 170 µW/cm² for the 26W.
UVB lets reptiles make their own vitamin D3 and absorb calcium, and the UVA it also gives off supports appetite and activity. Mount it so the animal can bask within range, never behind glass or plastic, which block UVB, and replace it every year even if it still lights, because UV output fades long before the bulb fails.

Keeper notes
Run the Exo Terra Reptile UVB100 on a timer for a regular day length, and note the date you installed it so you know when to replace it. A reflector dome such as the Exo Terra Light Dome directs more of the UVB down toward the animal. Give your animal shaded areas too, so it can move out of the UVB when it has had enough.
